Do I need a job in a dental practice?
Yes. You must work as a trainee dental nurse at an approved practice throughout the course. Arranging the placement is your responsibility, but we help you search and can provide a referral letter.
How is the diploma assessed?
Three assessments, each pass or fail: a Portfolio of Evidence, assessed by our tutors and sampled by NEBDN; an online Knowledge Test of 65 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes; and an online Professional Discussion with an NEBDN examiner. NEBDN sets and marks both exams. You must pass all three.
How long does it take?
The course takes 12 months. Your Portfolio of Evidence is assessed over a minimum of six months.
Where is it taught, and where are the exams?
Lectures and mock exams are online. The final Knowledge Test and Professional Discussion are run by NEBDN and taken online, at home or at work. Our centre is at 208 Upper Richmond Road, Putney, London.
When are the NEBDN exams?
NEBDN runs the Knowledge Test twice a year, in April and November, and the Professional Discussion in set windows. We register you with NEBDN and enter you for each exam.
Is there an OSCE?
No. On 1 July 2025 the NEBDN Level 3 Diploma replaced the old National Diploma, and it has no OSCE and no Record of Experience.
Is this a regulated qualification?
