How your phlebotomy training day runs
- Core TheoryAnatomy of the arm and veins, infection control and sharps, the equipment, consent and complications.
- Skills LabApply a tourniquet, learn the correct hold and the basic technique, and practise on training arms and mannequins.
- Live DemonstrationWatch your trainer perform a real blood draw step by step, and ask anything as it happens.
- Live Blood DrawsSupervised venepuncture on fellow participants who consent, with the butterfly system and the straight needle. Nobody is required to give blood.
- Advanced Clinical KnowledgeThe order of draw, difficult veins, special patient groups, and what experienced phlebotomists do when a draw does not go to plan.
- Competency AssessmentA 15-question multiple-choice test and a practical assessment observed by your trainer.
- Debrief & CertificationA recap of the whole day, your feedback, and your Certificate of Competence on passing.
Every option includes the online theory (training manual and 16 videos, six months of access) to study before the day.

Questions
Phlebotomy training: questions before you book
Do I need any experience?
No. The course is open to everyone aged 18 or over, with no previous qualifications or experience.
What is the difference between the two options?
Essentials is the morning: theory, the Skills Lab and a live demonstration. The Complete Course Day is the whole day: the same morning, then Live Practice & Competency Assessment in the afternoon, and your Certificate of Competence on passing.
Will I take blood from a real person, and when?
Yes, with consent, in the afternoon. In the morning you practise on training arms and mannequins and watch your trainer perform a real draw. In the afternoon you take supervised live draws from fellow participants who agree to it. Nobody is required to give blood.
How am I assessed?
In the afternoon: a 15-question multiple-choice test and a practical assessment observed by your trainer. Your Certificate of Competence is issued the same day, on passing.
What if I do not pass?
You get written feedback from your trainer, and reassessment is available. Call 020 8050 4353 and the office will explain the options.
I am enjoying the morning. Can I stay for the afternoon?
Yes. You can upgrade to the Complete Course Day on the day, subject to availability. Tell your trainer at lunch.
What if none of the dates suit me?
Choose “Flexible date” in the date list. You book and pay now, and the office contacts you to arrange a suitable training date.
What certificate do I get, and does it expire?
Essentials: a Certificate of Attendance, the same day. The Complete Course Day: a Certificate of Competence from London Medical School, issued the same day on passing. The Complete Course Day certificate carries 16 CPD hours. Certificates do not expire, and a printed copy is available for £25.
Is the online theory included, and when do I get it?
Yes, with both options: the training manual and 16 videos, with six months of access. Your booking confirmation email explains how to log in.
Is there anything else to pay?
No. The price covers the training, the consumables on the day, the assessment and your PDF certificate. A printed certificate (£25) and the Work Experience programme are optional extras.
How do I pay, and can I spread the cost?
Online by card, or choose Klarna or PayPal at checkout to spread the cost. You can also pay by bank transfer, or by cash or card at the School.
Do discount codes work on both?
Codes apply to the Complete Course Day and are applied automatically at checkout. Essentials has a fixed price.
Can I book for staff or a group?

What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes with sleeves that roll above the elbow, closed shoes, and long hair tied back. Full details come with your booking confirmation.
How big is the group?
Small groups, so everyone gets hands-on time.
